Effect of ointment with cabbage, pomegranate peel, and common plantain on wound healing in male rat

Background and aims: Numerous clinical and experimental researches have proved the herb plants effectiveness on the process of healing. Among these useful medicinal plants in traditional medicine are cabbage (Brassica oleracea), pomegranate (Punica granatum) peel, and common plantain (Plantago major L.). The present study was designed and done by mixing cabbage, pomegranate peel, and common plantain, in order to study the healing effect of this ointment on rat. Methods: In this experimental study, 24 rats as randomized were divided to 4 groups of 6 heads consisted of control (physiologic serum), control (being cured with Petadin), positive control (being cured by Phenytoin) and the experimental group being cured by the ointment made of cabbage, pomegranate peel, and common plantain. After injuring in aseptic and similar conditions, the animals were being cured daily, and in days 3, 6, 9 and 14 after injuring, the percentage of wound was studied. Findings: Results have shown the percentage of wound healing in the receiving ointment therapy in days 3, 6, 9 and 12 in comparison with the control group has significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: The results of study showed that pomade therapy is effective in healing of the injuries which is probably due to polyphenols and the antioxidant features of the mentioned plants.
